Our protections
The rules Check the Customer follows to stay fair to trades and customers, and within the law.
No public shaming
There's no public directory of named people and no "bad customer" list. Private customer information is never shown to the public.
No slagging off
Insults, labels, threats, harassment, doxxing and discriminatory content are blocked as you type and removed if they get through.
No paid reputation
Plans, adverts and partnerships buy tools and exposure. Never a better outcome, a removed complaint or a favourable decision.
No criminal allegations
Everyday forms don't let anyone accuse a named person of a crime. Records describe commercial events only.
How records are kept
No customer score
We removed the idea of an overall customer score. Nothing on the platform claims to measure a person's honesty, creditworthiness or whether they deserve work. The Job Protection Check rates your own job file.
No history isn’t a warning
No history, not being a member, or an incomplete file never counts against anyone. The screen says "not available", "not verified" or "incomplete".
Only what's needed
We collect the fewest details that do the job. No unnecessary addresses, dates of birth, ID documents, photos of people or sensitive information.
Getting the right person
Matching uses enough details to avoid mistaken identity, flags possible duplicates and records where each fact came from.
Corrections leave a trail
When a record is corrected, the change and the reason are recorded. Evidence is never silently rewritten.
Decisions are made by people
No computer decides that someone should be refused work or treated badly. Where a person reviews something, they look at the evidence, can change the result and write down why.
What’s checked before it’s published
The publication gate
- 1 · EventA neutral commercial event: what was agreed, invoiced, paid or not paid, and when.
- 2 · EvidenceThe documents behind it, kept with their source and upload time.
- 3 · StatusA neutral status that says how far the facts have been verified.
- 4 · ResponseThe person it's about can give their side, which is recorded with it.
- 5 · Controlled useOnly then, and only where the law allows, is it used, and only by people with a legitimate reason.
Higher-risk content is held back
Anything that could damage someone's reputation is held for a person to review first. We record who sent it, the evidence, and which version of our policy applied.
No revenge reports
Repeated reports, tit-for-tat reports after a dispute, coordinated campaigns and attempts to buy favourable treatment are investigated and can lead to restriction or removal.
Trained moderators
Moderators are trained on the no-slagging rule, evidence standards, data protection and the limits of their authority. A hard commercial dispute is not automatically dishonesty. Anyone with a personal or business connection to either side, including the founders, steps aside.
How disputes and appeals work
Every dispute follows the same route: submission, acknowledgement, evidence, response, review, decision, correction where needed, appeal and closure. First decisions come with a written reason, harder cases go to a more senior reviewer, and appeals are looked at by someone else where practical.
Our process sits alongside your legal rights and never replaces them. We don't decide who is legally liable, and matters outside our authority are referred to the right place.
Complaints, disputes and appeals policySeeing and challenging a record
Anyone can ask whether we hold information about them, why, and who has seen it. You can challenge its accuracy, whether it's really you, how it's linked to a job, or the context. A challenge creates a case that is assessed fairly. It doesn't win or lose because one side pays us.
Is there a record about me?How we look after information
Security
Encrypted connections, secure password handling, two-step sign-in for administrators, role-based access with the least access needed, secure backups and vulnerability management.
Audit trail
Important actions are logged: who, when, what, why and the result. Exporting evidence, changing a moderation outcome or opening sensitive records needs extra permission.
We don't keep things forever
Each kind of information has a set retention period and a disposal method. When you close your account, access and billing stop, and records are kept only as long as the law or an open dispute requires.
If something goes wrong
We have a tested plan for a data breach. It covers finding it, containing it and putting it right, and telling the ICO and the people affected when the law requires it.
No tracking
This website uses no advertising or analytics cookies. Service messages are kept separate from marketing, and marketing is opt-in with an easy way out.
Fair to everyone
Access, moderation, advertising and any future matching must not discriminate. Membership is for businesses and adults aged 18 and over.
Advertising integrity
Every advert has a named advertiser, campaign dates, a price, a moderation status and a clear "Sponsored" label. Adverts are checked before they go live and can be rejected under our published rules.
Advertising rulesPartner integrity
Partner contracts set out price, term, benefits, data and termination. Being a partner never gives access to private customer evidence or any say in moderation. Matching jobs to offers happens on the trade's own screen, and a partner only hears about a job if the trade sends a quote request.
Partner rulesFair subscriptions
The total price, VAT, billing frequency, renewal and cancellation are shown before you pay. You can cancel from your account. We never hold or move money between you and your customers.
